Xperia Tablet Z is water-proof,doesn’t mind dust

Last year,Sony Ericsson became just Sony and ever since,the company has come with sleek Xperia phones. At the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 last month,Sony launched a water-proof phone — Xperia Z. At MWC 2013,the company showcased a water-proof Xperia Tablet Z. The device has a 10.1-inch screen with a high-definition resolution of 1920×1200. Its thickness is just 6.9 mm,making it one of the sleekest tablets in the market (thickness of the iPad is 9.4 mm). The device weighs 495 grams,sitting squarely between the fourth generation iPad (650 g) and the iPad Mini (310 g). The tablet has an 8 megapixel camera and is dust-proof. It runs Android Jelly Bean and connectivity options include WiFi,3G,Bluetooth,NFC and infrared. The price is $499 (Rs 28,000) for 16GB and $599 (Rs 33,000) for 32 GB.

Opera Web Pass

Bharti Airtel and Opera Software announced the launch of Opera Web Pass for customers in India on Tuesday. Opera Web Pass allows users access to pay-as-you-go services on their phones. For this,Airtel subscribers need to download and install Opera Mini,one of the most popular mobile phone browsers. On the browser,the start page has a link to Opera Web Pass,which will show users the plans available. Users can purchase Internet access packs using the service. Available packs include 24-hour data usage or browsing over the weekend. Users without data plans can now easily purchase Internet packs,using this service. “For millions of users,their mobile phones have the potential to become the first device through which they will experience the web. We want to simplify the steps leading to web browsing for these first-time users. Opera Web Pass allows us to give users access to the mobile internet when and where they want it,” N Rajaram,Chief Marketing Officer for Consumer Business,Bharti Airtel said.

LG WCP-300 Wireless Charger

LG Electronics showcased “the world’s smallest” wireless charger — WCP-300. Designed for portability,WCP-300 has a diameter of only 6.9 cm — roughly the same as that of a beverage can. LG says the wireless charger is compatible with smartphones that support Qi norm — an interface standard developed by World Power Consortium for power transmission. The company didn’t provide details of pricing and availability at MWC,but judging by the South Korean price (65,000 won),it might cost roughly Rs 3,500.
