Smartron t-phone clearly takes a leaf out of the OnePlus book and tries to offer a phone that is more bang for its buck
India has huge aspirations of becoming a hub for manufacturing smartphones and we are taking baby steps in that direction. While India has some established brands in the space, there are more coming to the fore. One such brand is Smartron which clearly does not want to limit its ambitions to India or smartphones.
After launching a 2-in-1 convertible, the Hyderabad-based company has now started selling its mid-range smartphone, the t-phone. Here is what we thought about this made for India device.

The Smartron t-phone clearly takes a leaf out of the OnePlus book and tries to offer a phone that is more bang for its buck. It is a smart looking looking phone that will appeal to a lot of people.
What is good?
Smartron t-phone comes in saffron so that you can wear your patriotism on your heart
I liked the looks of the phone and it even comes in saffron so that you can wear your patriotism on your heart. But the best thing about the design is the fact that it feels light despite being among the heavier phones in this segment. That’s because the weight seems to have been pushed to the edges. The phone offers a good grip and feels like it will last.
The Full HD display is both bright and vibrant. This means you will have no issues working with it in bright sunlight.
The overall performance of the phone is good, but this is no OnePlus 3. You will have no issues with regular tasks and I didn’t notice any lag on the screen or while playing games. The phone doesn’t heat up, which is a big plus these days.

The camera is quite good on the phone. The colours are rich, but natural. The lighting can be very subtle and not the over-processed extra bright images in some phones these days. The clicker is also fast. The selfies camera will also not disappoint you.
The camera is quite good on the phone. The colours are rich, but natural.
The battery will see you through a full day, but you might want to reduce the brightness of the screen for best results.
What is not good?
I don’t have a lot of complaints with the phone. However, I did feel they could have given a more versatile camera app given its great performance. The app now is basic and does on give you a lot of options to tweak settings.
At a personal level, I did not like the orange-grey combination of the review device. It might be better to opt for the quieter colour combinations.
Verdict

The Smartron t-phone is a decent phone and ticks all the boxes. However, it is not going to be an easy fight for this device. At this price range it has to compete with many good devices, including the year old OnePlus 3. Since some of those phones still have an edge when it comes to specs and performance, I suggest you buy this phone if you are a big supporter of new Indian brands or if you want to get a look inside the larger ecosystem Smartron is promising.
