Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S25 series with a ton of new AI features and a much faster chipset. The newly launched devices are more of an iterative upgrade on the hardware front, but the software experience cannot be more different. While Samsung does pre-load its phones with numerous built-in apps like Notes, Calendar and Email, it looks like the company is finally sunsetting the Messages app.
According to Android Authority, Samsung confirmed in an email that it is indeed moving users to Google Messages, but users who already have the app will still be able to use it. However, it is no longer available on the Google Play Store.
In case you forgot, Samsung phones have been long criticized by users because One UI comes with several duplicate apps, with users not being able to uninstall many of them. One of them was Samsung Messages, which, for reasons unknown, has been existing alongside Google Messages since the Galaxy S21 series.
Samsung has been closely collaborating with Google, and in July last year, when the company unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, it said Google Messages would be the default messaging app on all new Samsung devices from there on.
Another thing to note here is that it is still unclear if Samsung Messages will disappear once users their device to One UI 7, but it is unlikely to happen since the app works on One UI 7 beta builds.
