WhatsApp for iPad is getting a much-needed overhaul with the latest release, which now includes a dedicated Communities tab. This feature, first introduced in late 2022 for Android, iOS, and web users, is now being rolled out to the iPad version of the popular instant messaging app. However, the update, according to WABetaInfo, is currently limited to beta testers via the TestFlight app and is expected to roll out to everyone in the coming days. Communities on WhatsApp help people with similar ideas or interests come together to form a community, which can include up to 5,000 users and 50 separate groups, making it easy to share an update or message across users. With a dedicated tab on WhatsApp to manage Communities, users no longer need to search for a community within the general chat tab and can quickly access and manage communities via the dedicated tab — a useful update, especially for those who need to maintain multiple communities. Since WhatsApp for iPad is a companion app, users won't be able to natively create and run a WhatsApp account directly on the iPad — it can only act as a companion to the primary account from an Android or iOS device. With this update, WhatsApp is finally allowing users to access communities even on companion devices, such as a Wi-Fi-only Android tablet or an iPad. Meta also recently added its AI services to WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, allowing users to generate images and use them like any other chatbot to ask questions without leaving these apps. Meta AI is powered by the Llama 3 model and is currently available for free.
