Spam messages on WhatsApp will soon be a thing of the past

WhatsApp will soon enable its users to automatically block messages from unknown numbers; it is capable of flagging and filtering out malicious accounts that might be used to spam users.

Unlike some messaging platforms, which require permission to text an unknown user, WhatsApp allows users to text anyone, and all they need is the phone number, making it much easier to connect with fellow WhatsApp users. Many have started misusing this feature, leading to a massive increase in spam messages, phishing attempts, and more. Meta will soon put an end to this, where WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to automatically block messages from unknown numbers.

In the latest version (2.24.17.24) of WhatsApp beta for Android, there is a new feature that allows users to block messages from unknown numbers. This feature needs to be enabled manually by the user, and once enabled, the app will automatically block the contact if it exceeds a certain volume of messages.

First reported by WABetaInfo, this feature will not only help users cut down on spam messages on WhatsApp but can also help improve the performance of your smartphone, by automatically blocking unwanted messages. This means WhatsApp users will receive the first few messages from an unknown number, and if they continue to spam, then the same will be automatically blocked.

WhatsApp already has a similar feature for audio and video calls, where a WhatsApp call from an unknown number will be automatically silenced.

WhatsApp has other safety features when it comes to spam protection and privacy, where the platform is capable of flagging and filtering out malicious accounts that might be used to spam users. On top of that, there is also an option for users to report a spam message sent by an unknown number or business.
