Uber announced a set of new features aimed at making airport rides easier for both drivers and users. This includes the option to reserve rides up to 90 days in advance and step-by-step wayfinding guides that will guide users from the airport gate to Uber pickup zones.
Here are some of the new features announced by the ridesharing company.
According to Uber, its app will now feature a step-by-step wayfinding guide that will assist riders on their way from the gate all the way to Uber pickup zones. This guide could include actual pictures from the airport and will help passengers find their way to their Uber much more easily.
The feature is being rolled out to 13 of the busiest airports in the country. Also, riders at some of these airports will also be shown approximate walking times from their gate to the pickup zone, helping them plan their journey better.
Uber is introducing a new opt-in feature where riders can choose to sync their travel plans with Uber through email integration. Using the new features, riders will be able to pre-book their rides on the Uber app while being assisted by pre-filled dates and times that correspond with their flight, using information from their email ID.
The Uber Reserve feature will allow riders to book rides up to 90 days in advance. According to Uber, apart from allowing riders to better plan their rides to the airport, this will also give drivers the advantage of being able to lock in their potential earnings, thereby helping them plan their earnings better.
Uber Reserve rides will not be limited to airport drop-offs, it can also be used for regular planned travel and will be available through a range of Uber options, including Premier, XL, Intercity and Rentals.
Apart from the features aimed at riders, Uber has also introduced an update that it claims will make life easier for drivers. The company says its driver app will now show the approximate waiting time at the airport before drivers can expect to get a ride, the number of cars that are in queue at the airport Uber zone and the number of flight arrivals that are expected over the next hour.
