Snapchat–the go-to social media platform for more than 750 million people worldwide–is getting several new features allowing parents to request their children to share their real-time location. As part of Family Center, the company also introduced another feature enabling parents to see when their teen children have arrived at a particular location, like home or gym.
According to the company, almost half of Snapchat users make use of the “Snap Map” to share their location with friends and family. Snapchat is also bringing some new Snap Map location sharing features to the Family Center which will make it easy for families to stay connected even on the go.
Using a new option in the Family Center, parents and caretakers will now be able to request teens to share their real-time location and even share their location with their children. For parents who manage teens’ Snapchat accounts, you can now see which friends your children share their location with on Snap Map.
Snapchat is also getting a new feature dubbed “Travel Notifications” that lets users add up to three places on the Snap Map, like home, school or gym. This will let parents know if and when their children have arrived or departed from the added locations.
As an additional security measure, Snapchat will now show a pop-up when they add a new friend who they do not know in the real world. All aforementioned features will be rolling out in the coming weeks, so it may take some time before they are available on your account.
