Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has launched two new entry-level offerings in India – the Redmi A2 and the Redmi A2+ – as successors to the Redmi A1 and Redmi A1+ released in October 2022. All four phones look nearly identical, but there are some key distinctions.
First, let’s take a look at the specs. The Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ come with a large 6.52-inch IPS LCD display with a 720p resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. Under the hood is the upgraded MediaTek Helio G36 chipset with the PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The phones come with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and pack a 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support.
For photography, the Redmi devices feature an 8MP camera at the back and a 5MP selfie shooter upfront. The phones boot into stock Android 13 Go. Their back panel features a leather-like finish for better grip. A headphone jack is also present.
After-sales service has been paid special attention with these phones. Both phones come with an extended 2-year warranty, which Xiaomi claims is the lengthiest in the industry at this price range. Senior citizens can also avail of exclusive ‘At-home service’ by dialling 18001036286 or sending a WhatsApp message to 8861826286.
The Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ go on sale on May 23 at 12:00 noon across Amazon.in, Mi.com, Mi Home, and all retail partners. Below are their prices.
Redmi A2 2GB+32GB: Rs 5,999
Redmi A2 2GB+64GB: Rs 6,499
Redmi A2 4GB+64GB: Rs 7,499
Redmi A2+ 4GB+64GB: Rs 8,499
ICICI bank card holders can also avail of an additional instant discount of up to Rs 500 on the purchase of these devices. Colour options are Sea Green, Calming Aqua Blue, and Classic Black.
Both phones are identical in every way, down to their dimensions and weight. However, this year’s models come with a significant upgrade in processing power. Where the Redmi A1+ was powered by a quad-core chip, the Redmi A2+ gets the octa-core MediaTek Helio G36 chip, which should translate to improved multi-tasking performance.
The Redmi A2+ also boots into stock Android 13 Go out of the box, whereas the Redmi A1+ arrived with Android 12 Go.
The Redmi A2+ features a fingerprint sensor at the back and is resultantly priced Rs 1,000 higher. All other features are identical to the cheaper model. Redmi A2, meanwhile, relies on face unlock.
