Nothing, the London-based phone maker known for its unique transparent design language, recently launched Nothing Ear, the successor to last year’s Nothing Ear (2). While the new earbuds look the same as the old ones, they pack some pretty significant upgrades in areas like battery and sound quality. If you are confused between the new Nothing Ear and the Nothing Ear (2), here are some key differences between the two.
Longer battery with and without case
The new Nothing Ear has got a much-needed upgrade in the battery department. Compared to the Nothing Ear (2), which the company claims lasts up to 4 hours with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled, the new earbuds can last up to 5.2 hours on a single charge with ANC turned on. That is almost 25 per cent more.

For those who can manage without ANC, the difference between the two is even more. Nothing says its newest earbuds can last up to 8.5 hours compared to the Nothing Ear (2)’s 6.5 hours of battery life.

Improved audio
In our review, we found out that the new Nothing Ear has better audio quality compared to last year’s Nothing Ear (2). Nothing’s latest flagship earbuds have the right mix of highs and lows, offering a more refined experience.
The company seems to have reduced the driver size from 11.6mm to 11m, but Nothing says it is using ceramic drivers this time, which offers more richness compared to the graphene and polyurethane drivers used in the Nothing Ear (2).
More noise cancellation and better microphones
The Nothing Ear (2) does offer ANC, blocking up to 40 decibels of external noise. While this may not be the best in the industry, it is really good for the asking price. However, the new Nothing Ear can cancel up to 45 decibels of noise, but turning it on might affect the audio quality.
Nothing has also developed its proprietary technology to reduce unwanted background noise while on calls. The company claims the new Nothing Ear’s Clear Voice Technology 3.0 “reduced interference by up to 60 per cent”, compared to the Clear Voice Technology 2.0 on Nothing Ear (2).

Nothing Ear (2) is currently available for Rs 8,999 on Flipkart and other e-commerce platforms. The new Nothing Ear is priced at Rs 11,999. If you want more battery life, slightly better audio quality, and if you are someone who makes a lot of voice calls, the newly launched Nothing Ear is the one to pick. However, last year’s Nothing Ear (2) is not bad by any means. If you don’t mind slightly lesser battery life, the Nothing Ear (2) can offer a similar experience at a relatively lower price.
