On Tuesday, the London-based consumer tech brand Nothing unveiled its latest pair of unique-looking truly wireless stereo earphones (TWS) that offer features we haven't seen on any other TWS so far. Priced at Rs 17,999, they are also the company's most expensive earphones to date. The Nothing Ear (Open) doesn't look anything like AirPods, the most popular TWS in the world. Instead, they look like sports earbuds, with a hook that goes around the ear to offer a snug fit. It also includes a battery, capable of delivering over eight hours of battery life per charge and up to 30 hours with the carry case. Ear (open). This also means these miss out on active noise cancellation. To solve the sound leak issue––one of the primary drawbacks of an open-ear style earphone––Nothing has taken a different approach – an outward-facing speaker on each earbud, which plays anti-sound to effectively cancel out the noise leaking from the speaker on the inside. These earbuds are fitted with a custom diaphragm with a titanium coating, and they include a new bass enhancement feature that automatically detects the music and adjusts the sound. These earbuds are also equipped with microphones to enable clear audio calls, and there is a game mode that further reduces the audio latency to 120 ms. It can be further customised via the Nothing X app. The earbuds are compatible with both Android and iOS devices with support for AAC and SBC codecs. Nothing claims that the Ear (Open) is designed for ultimate comfort. They are tilted at 50 degrees to position the speaker directly above the ear, and the extra hook, which also includes the battery, is made using a soft, skin-friendly silicone material. However, these are a lot bigger than most earbuds and are also heavier at 8.1 grams, while something like the AirPods Pro 2 is just around 5 grams. However, the ear hook should help with better weight distribution, which should make them feel lighter than most earbuds, although they aren't.
