Microsoft is reportedly working on a redesigned Windows 11 Start menu layout for the all-apps list. The current implementation shows all your apps in a vertical list sorted alphabetically, but it looks like Microsoft is taking inspiration from the iOS App Library for the redesigned interface.
This means that instead of showing all your installed apps in a list, Windows 11 might categorise and group all your apps by type. The redesign, which was first spotted by a user goes by the handle @phantomofearth, says that the new Start menu is present in build 226.35.3930, but some categories are not functional at the moment.
The post also suggests that users will be able to revert back to the old list design using a dropdown menu. According to Windows Central, the new Windows 11 Start menu will categorise apps into Productivity, Photo & Video, News & Weather, Entertainment, Utilities & Tools, Navigation & Maps, Developer tools, Music and others.
As it turns out, Microsoft might also be working on the ability to sort apps alphabetically instead of grouping them by app type, which may be similar to the app drawer on Android. Also, similar to most Android launchers, the Windows 11 Start Menu is said to have a drop-down menu that lets you switch between these layouts.
Since Microsoft is yet to officially announce the new Start menu layout, it is still uncertain if and when the redesigned Start menu will be available for everyone.
