The 7th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2023, which started Friday, has attracted many participants and visitors who are eager to witness the future of digital transformation. A mega event, the IMC showcases trends and innovations in the telecom, media, and technology sectors.     IMC 2023 focuses on 5G and beyond

    The event explores the potential of 5G technology for various sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, power and transportation, and how it can be tailored to India's specific needs and global requirements. It also covers topics related to the semiconductor industry, green technology and cybersecurity. The event also plays a crucial role in preparing India's academic and startup ecosystem for the upcoming 6G era, and developing indigenous telecom technology for national security.

    The event is said to have over 1 lakh participants from 22 countries, including around 5,000 CEO-level delegates, 230 exhibitors, 400 startups and various stakeholders. These attendees are being provided a platform for networking, collaboration and knowledge sharing among the global telecom community.

    PM Modi lauds India's 5G achievements

    PM Modi inaugurated the event and recalled that India surprised the world with its 5G rollout last year. He said that India did not stop after the success of 5G and worked on reaching it to every individual. He informed that India has developed 4 lakh 5G base stations that cover more than 97 percent of the cities and 80 percent of the population. He also said that India's median mobile broadband speed has increased three times within one year, and that India has moved from the 118th position to the 43rd position in terms of broadband speed. He further added that India is not only expanding its 5G network but also becoming a leader in 6G technology.

    IMC 2023 announces 100 5G labs across India

    The first big announcement at the event was about setting up 100 5G labs across India to promote students, professors, startups and MSMEs to work on 5G technology in various fields like health, agriculture, manufacturing and more. These labs will be set up in academic institutions in multiple states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Telangana, Karnataka and more. Some of the institutions that will host these labs are IIT Guwahati, IIT Silchar, Delhi Technological University, Jamia Hamdard University, Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, and more.

    Reliance Jio demonstrates satellite-based broadband

    Reliance Jio showcased the country's first satellite-based Gigabit broadband service that can provide high-speed internet in previously inaccessible geographies. At the event, Jio demonstrated how they are offering internet to four remote locations: Gir Gujarat, Korba Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur Odissa, and Jorhat Assam. There is no word yet on when the service will be widely available to users.

    Reliance Jio showcases Jio Glass

    Reliance Jio also displayed the Jio Glass, a mixed-reality headset that was announced at the company's 43rd annual general meeting. The device can be used for immersive video conferencing, virtual meetings, education, watching videos, and gaming.

    Nokia demonstrates 6G tech

    Nokia unveiled its vision for the future of wireless communication, which involves using 6G technology to create a situational awareness that can sense and interact with the environment without compromising privacy. Nokia demonstrated how its 6G network can act as a radar, detecting objects, people, and movements around corners and at a distance. Nokia also showcased its smart and safe railway networks, which use a private wireless network to support advanced signaling and train control systems. This will enable faster, safer, and greener transportation for commuters in India.

    Ericsson's RedCap solution

    Ericsson introduced its new radio access network (RAN) software solution, RedCap, which aims to simplify and extend the battery life of 5G devices while delivering higher data rates and speeds. RedCap is designed for devices such as smartwatches, wearables, industrial sensors, and AR/VR devices, which require low power consumption and high performance. Ericsson partnered with Airtel and Qualcomm to demonstrate the capabilities of RedCap devices on the Airtel 5G network.

    Aspire and Robo Blitz

    India Mobile Congress 2023 also featured two new initiatives to foster entrepreneurship and skill development among young innovators and engineers. Aspire was a start-up program that highlighted the potential of emerging technologies in the telecom and digital domains. Robo Blitz was a robo wars event that challenged participants to showcase their talents in robotics.
