After Swiggy, Zomato, a popular online food ordering platform in India is getting a new feature that can help you plan and pre-order your meals. Dubbed ‘Order Scheduling’, Zomato says the new functionality gives users “full control over when your food is delivered” by allowing them to schedule deliveries from 2 hours to 2 days in advance. The feature is currently available at more than 35,000 restaurants across 30 cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, Raipur, Ahmedabad and others.

How to schedule food orders on Zomato?

To use the new Order Scheduling feature on Zomato, open the app and you will find a new option called ‘Schedule’ under the ‘All Restaurants’ section in the Delivery tab. Tap on it, select your preferred date and time and Zomato will show the list of available restaurants in your area.

Now, add the food you want to the cart. On the bill summary page, Zomato will show you a card which says ‘This is a scheduled delivery’ and that your order will be prepared a few minutes before your delivery time. In case you change your plans or don’t want the scheduled food delivery, the app allows you to cancel your order up to three before the set time.

Zomato says it is adding select restaurants that have “consistently adhered to kitchen preparation time” and that these restaurants will be notified ahead of time so they have enough time to prepare and deliver the order. For those wondering, Zomato started testing the feature earlier this year in August, but it was limited to deliveries amounting to Rs 1,000 or more and was available in select cities.
