Google unveils Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8 with AI advancements; price starts at Rs 75,999

Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel 8 are now official. Powered by Google’s new in-house Tensor G3 processor, the latest smartphones pack the latest software and AI advancements. The Pixel 8 is priced at Rs 75,999, and the Pixel 8 Pro costs Rs 106,999. Both the devices can be pre-ordered on Flipkart starting today.

Pixel 8 series is now powered by the Bard LLM and is called Assistant with Bard and offers generative AI capabilities. It can hear, speak, see, and take actions to help users. It can also pull information from different apps and services. Pixel 8 series is also the first to ship with Android 14 and will receive seven years of OS updates, which will keep these devices up to date until 2030.

On the other hand, the Pixel 8 Pro is also the first smartphone capable of running Google’s foundational AI model. It can run generative AI models that are 150x times larger than the Pixel 7. Pixel 8 Pro is also the first phone to feature a custom generative AI image model that enables a feature called zoom enhance, which can enhance the quality of zoomed pictures.

The Google Pixel 8 comes with a 6.2-inch screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and the bigger Pixel 8 Pro packs a bigger 2K resolution screen with a 120Hz refresh rate with up to a peak brightness of 2400 nits. The Pixel 8 Pro comes in Obsidian and Bay colour options. Similarly, the Pixel 8 also comes in Obsidian, Rose, and Hazel shades.

The Pixel 8 Pro also gets a new temperature sensor, located just next to the camera island. The Pixel 8 series of smartphones are easier to repair and Google has partnered with iFixit to offer spares and repair guides. Both models are now IP68-rated for water and dust resistance.

The Tensor G3 powering the Pixel 8 series is more powerful and efficient. It packs an upgraded CPU, GPU, and a new on-device AI engine called TPU and can run twice as many on-device machine learning models when compared to the original Tensor features on the Pixel 6 series.

The same chip also enables additional camera capabilities on the Pixel 8 series. It also enables next-generation auto call screening and this feature will also be available on the Pixel Watch.

The Pixel 8 Pro has a triple camera setup at the back with a 50MP wide-angle lens, 48MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom support. There is also a 10.5MP selfie camera, which is consistent with the Pixel 8. It is to be noted that the Pixel 8 comes with a 50 MP wide-angle lens and a 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens on its rare panel..

Pixel 8 series also gets a computation audio capability, powered by Tensor G3 and an advanced machine learning model, where the audio magic eraser can remove background noise from videos.

The best take feature on Pixel 8 will combine a series of photos to help users create a perfect group photo by replacing facial expressions using the other photos.

The updated magic eraser feature on Pixel 8 also allows users to move certain objects within a picture using generative AI. On top of that, the guided frame feature is now available for both the primary and the selfie camera.

The bigger Pixel 8 Pro has a few more camera tricks, including an option to take photos with 10x zoomed optical quality pictures. There is also a new pro control mode that lets users further tweak various camera features.

The new video boost technology on the Pixel 8 Pro lets users shoot videos with full dynamic range, achieved by processing every frame of the video using the new HDR pipeline. The night sight video also improves the video quality in low-light situations.
