Google for India Event 2020 Highlights: Google is set to hold its sixth annual event, Google for India today. For the first time, it will just be a virtual event due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the event, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, Sundar Pichai will address the virtual audience. According to Google, the event will aim to unlock “new opportunities as India heads into a new, digital-first future”.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications, Electronics and IT, Law & Justice will also be present at the event and address the audience about the digital transformation of India. Also, India’s HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will talk about the education landscape in India.
By the end of 2020, Google will enable 1 million teachers and 22,000 schools across India to "combine classroom approach with online learning" using free tools like G-Suite, Google Classroom, Youtube etc.
Sapna Chadha, Google Senior Country Marketing Director India and Southeast Asia talked about the initiatives the company has taken in the education space. She briefly talked about Teach for Home project. According to Chadha, over 4 lakh educators accessed the Teach From Home hub.

Caesar Sengupta, Google Vice President Payments and Next Billion Users in India quotes an ICEA report, which revealed that Android contributed to 1.6 million jobs in India. He also revealed that 26 million small and medium businesses in India are now searchable on Google. Sengupta also announced that the Google Pay Business app is being by over 3 million merchants in India. Meanwhile, Google Pay's Nearby Store feature is used by over 2 million users in India.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai on Monday announced a $10 billion investment in Google for India. “Today, I’m excited to announce Google for India fund. Through this effort, we will invest, Rs 75,000 crore, or proximately $10 billion, into India for the next five to seven years. We will do this through a mix of equity investment partnerships and operational infrastructure is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India
investments will focus on four areas important to India’s digitalisation first enabling affordable access and information for every Indian in their own language.

The next-generation Google Home speaker is more or less confirmed. There's no word on when we can expect a release. Some say Google might debut a brand new Google Nest smart speaker during the Google for India event. It's unlikely Google will use this platform to announce the new smart speaker that's meant for the US audience.
There's a high chance of Google's marque apps and services might get India-centric features. Last year, Google Pay for Business app for merchants was announced. Google also expanded Indian language support across its core products such as Google Assistant, Discover and Lens.
