Google has been slowly adding new features to Gemini, its AI-powered digital assistant. While it may not be able to do everything Google Assistant does, the tech giant recently updated Gemini so it can automatically start Google Maps navigation when you ask for directions. To start navigation to a location using Gemini, simply trigger the AI-powered digital assistant and use the 'navigate to [place]' or 'take me to [x]' commands. Once you tell Gemini where you want to go, it will show a summary of the route, the distance to your destination, and the time taken to reach the location using the Google Maps integration. A few seconds later, the AI-powered assistant will automatically open Google Maps and start navigation. According to the Gemini app's changelog on the Google Play Store, when using the app you won't need to tap on the send button anymore since the voice commands will be automatically sent. While the ability to start navigation to a place is new for Gemini, Google Assistant has had the functionality for years now. Google's Gemini app isn't available for all, but you can download the APK file from a trusted third-party website, install it on your device and use it as a Google Assistant alternative. The AI-powered digital assistant currently lacks some features compared to Google Assistant, but the company is slowly improving Gemini by introducing new features and adding some existing functionalities that were already available on Google Assistant.
