Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be available on iOS-powered devices via AltStore PAL, a third-party app store only available in the European Union. The game studio also said it plans to bring the popular battle royale title to “at least two other third party stores soon.”
In a blog post, Epic Games also revealed that it will remove Fortnite and other apps like Rocket League Sideswipe and Postparty from Samsung’s Galaxy Store because of Samsung’s recently introduced “Auto Blocker” feature, which prevents users from installing apps from competing app stores. However, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that they will “continue to support Samsung devices fully and wholeheartedly now and in the future.”
The blog post also states that Epic Games will be “ending distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors with competing robustly and serving all developers fairly”, which might be referring to Google and Apple’s disputes with the gaming studio.
While Epic Games said that Fortnite will be coming to AltStore PAL “soon”, it did not share a definitive timeline on the app’s availability. The company is also working on its very own app store for Android and iOS. Currently, Fortnite is neither available on the Apple App Store nor on Google Play Store and the only way to download the game on Android devices is by downloading the installer from Epic Games’ website.
Earlier this month, Apple temporarily gave a green light to the Epic Games Store, but said that it is demanding to change buttons like ‘install’ and ‘in-app purchase’ in the next version because they looked too similar to the Apple App Store.
