Apple’s first retail store in India officially opened in Mumbai on Tuesday. Tim Cook, Apple CEO along with Deirdre O’Brien, senior vice-president of Retail attended the Mumbai store’s opening.
Crowds queued at the doors for hours waiting for the grand opening to get a hold of everything from the new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Ultra. Apple’s retail staff cheered as the store opened its doors to the public. The store, located in the Jio World Drive Mall at Bandra Kurla Complex opened today and will operate from 11 am to 10:00 pm.
Apple BKC store will offer the full Apple ecosystem including the iPhone, the iPad, the Apple Watch, the MacBook range, Apple TV and Apple accessories.
Spanning two floors, the store’s ceilings feature triangular, handcrafted timber tiles that extend beyond the glass facade to the underside of the exterior canopy. Each of these tiles are made from 408 pieces of timber, forming 31 modules per tile with a total of 1,000 tiles that make up the ceiling. The store has a combined staff of 100 people, speaking 20 different languages.
The store was packed with Apple fans – and there was a long queue of people outside the outlet waiting for their turn to get inside. This is especially noteworthy for many reasons.
The ongoing craze for Apple’s products, especially the iPhone, resonates with the optimism expressed by Apple CEO Tim Cook. iPhone sales in India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market, have started to boom in the high-end segment. Experts say India could be the next growth engine for Cupertino as more people are willing to buy Apple’s popular products in the country.
