Amazon’s fall event primarily focused on the new AI features and capabilities coming to the Echo and Fire TV devices. However, it also included the launch of Echo Frames and a smart glass designed in collaboration with Carrera Eyewear.
The new Echo Frames are also supercharged by the new Alexa LLM AI. Unlike most smart glasses in the market, Amazon has taken a distinctive approach this time as the Echo Frames look a lot like regular eyeglasses. According to Amazon, the Echo Frames offer a “combination of high-end fashion with Alexa artificial intelligence (AI).”

Even in terms of design, Amazon is offering a variety of options, and the new Echo Frames are available in multiple styles, including Modern Rectangle, Rectangle, Round, Square, Cat Eye, Carrera Cruiser, and Carrera Sprinter, with most of these looking just like a traditional pair of eyewear. For prescription lenses, Amazon has partnered with Boomerang.
In terms of features, the Echo Frames is IPX4-rated for water resistance, and the lenses offer UV400 protection, making them suitable as sunglasses. In terms of battery life, the Echo Frames can provide continuous media playback for up to six hours on a single charge, with support for gesture input, which can be used for answering calls and controlling music.
The new Echo Frames also act as a Bluetooth audio device, which, when paired with a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, can stream music. With a built-in microphone, these eyeglasses can also be used for video and audio calls. On top of all these features, the Echo Frames can be used to summon Alexa. Echo Frames can be used to listen to music, and watch movies, and can also be used to control smart devices with voice commands.
The base model of Echo Frames starts at $269.99, and the Carrera smart glasses are priced at $389.99, both of which are currently available for pre-order on Amazon.
