Elon Musk says X will soon let users see posts from blocked accounts, but there’s a catch

The changes to the block feature have been confirmed by Musk himself, but it is still unclear when they will go live.

Elon Musk owned X is making a huge change to how the Block feature works on the platform. Currently, the social media platform allows users to block an account, after which they won’t be able to engage or see their posts.

However, according to recent changes spotted by Nima Owji, an independent app researcher, X will soon let users see an account’s public posts even if they block the account.

Musk commented on the post and said that this was “high time this happened.” While the current version of the block button on X prevents any kind of engagement with blocked users, users could simply log out or view the public account’s tweet from another browser.

According to TechCrunch, who received a DM from Owji, X users may soon stop seeing the “You’re blocked…” message when they try to see the account of blocked users. While users won’t be able to see all of their posts, their public posts will still be visible.

The publication also suggests that the platform will enforce limitations like the ability to report, reply, quote or engage with posts from blocked users. At the time of writing, it is still unclear if and when the change to the block button will go live, so we might have to wait some time.

Almost a decade ago, when X was called Twitter, the social media had introduced similar changes to its block feature, but then quickly reverted them after user backlash.

Earlier this month, Elon Musk announced a new X TV app, which, unlike the social media platform, is a live streaming service that lets users watch content on their smart TVs without having to use a set top box.
