The Meta-owned social media platform Instagram reportedly displays users’ AI-generated images of themselves as part of a new experiment. According to a recent report by 404Media, a user shared a post on Reddit saying that they came across an AI-generated version of themselves where they were shown a slideshow of AI-generated images where they are standing in front of “an endless maze of mirrors.”
As you can see in the image below, the post is only visible to the user and has an accompanying caption that says “Imagine yourself reflecting on life in an endless maze of mirrors where you’re the main focus.” In the comments, users said that this wasn’t real, but when the publication contacted Meta, the Mark Zuckerberg-owned firm confirmed that it was indeed a feature that teased in September last year.
To give you a quick recap, Meta was working on a new feature for its AI chatbot that allows users to add, remove or change things in an image like their outfit or background and even generate a new background for the story. However, Meta’s announcement did not mention that it would randomly show users an AI-generated version of themselves in the feed.
A few days ago, a report claimed that Meta was planning to bring AI bots to Facebook and Instagram to retain its user base and attract a younger audience, including a new feature that helps users create AI characters on these social media platforms. The company also deleted several AI accounts after getting backlash from human users.
