OnePlus 6T starts getting OxygenOS 9.0.6 update with optimised screen unlock, image processing

OnePlus 6T phones have started receiving the OxygenOS 9.0.6 update. This enhances Screen Unlock, while also bringing camera improvements.

OnePlus has started rolling out the OxygenOS 9.0.6 update for OnePlus 6T. In a detailed post on the OnePlus Forum, the Chinese company confirmed an update to its Screen Unlock feature, that was unveiled with this phone. Users can expect this over the air (OTA) update in phases, as this version of OxygenOS will be rolled out gradually.

The post has also confirmed that the OnePlus flagship will come with an ‘improved unlock experience’, which is expected to be of the in-display fingerprint scanner. Besides, OnePlus 6T users will also be able to receive regular Google Play Store updates as part of a bug fix. This update also accounts for optimisation to the phone’s power consumption.

The changelog also mentions camera improvements, though it does not mention the nature of the upgrade. OxygenOS 9.0.6 also brings other bug fixes and security updates, as can be expected from its testing. Through previous versions of OxygenOS, the phone had already received the Android November 2018 security patch.

The OnePlus 6T made its global debut in a number of markets, including India last month. The flagship phone sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED waterdrop-style display and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor and runs on OxygenOS, based on Android 9.0 Pie. The handset is backed by a 3,700mAh battery. OnePlus 6T is available alongside 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage.

OnePlus 6T comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner, activated by the ‘Screen Unlock’ feature, while retaining the Face Unlock option. The phone sports vertically stacked dual rear cameras, in a 16MP+20MP configuration. It not only offers improved low-light photography through the NightScape mode, while also featuring OIS and EIS. The phone also holds a 16MP front camera.
