Nothing, despite being a new entrant in the smartphone world, has garnered a following with its unique-looking and pocket-friendly devices. Recent announcements indicate that the brand is focusing more on affordable devices.

In its quest to conquer the budget smartphone market, the company will introduce a new phone from its sub-brand CMF – Phone 1, on July 8. This device is touted to be Nothing’s most affordable smartphone in India and worldwide.

Here is everything we know so far about Nothing’s next CMF-branded Phone 1:

Very unlike Nothing, but still recognisable

Nothing calls Phone 1 “wonderful by design,” suggesting it will be unique in its segment. Unlike the Nothing Phone (1), (2), or the newly announced (2a), the CMF-branded phone, however, will likely miss out on the company’s iconic Glyph lighting.

Based on official renders, the CMF Phone 1 will be available in at least two colour options and will feature a polycarbonate body with a vegan leather back panel, at least on the orange variant. The back of the phone also appears to have a physical volume knob-like design, similar to the one on the CMF Neckband Pro, serving both aesthetic and practical purposes. The company is also expected to announce a few accessories that might get attached to the phone.

Nothing also seems to have incorporated a screw into the design of the CMF Phone 1, calling it the “Nothing Lock.” The overall form factor of the device is likely to be similar to that of the Phone (2a). While the CMF Phone 1 might not resemble previous Nothing Phones, its distinct design ethos is likely to make it stand out from the crowd.

Mid-tier hardware, top-tier software

The CMF Phone 1’s hardware might closely resemble the Phone 2a. As per some leaks, the device will be powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7200 with at least 6 GB RAM and 128/256 GB of internal storage. Unlike previous smartphones from the company, this one might include a microSD card slot.

The phone is expected to feature a 6.67-inch OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. As a budget phone, it is said to have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an in-display sensor.

The device is rumoured to include dual 50 MP cameras at the back with a dedicated ultra-wide angle lens, and a 16 MP selfie camera. A 5,000 mAh battery is likely to power the device, supporting 33W charging.

The company has confirmed that the CMF Phone 1 will come with ChatGPT integration, a feature already available on all three Nothing Phones. Users can also access ChatGPT via the Nothing/CMF branded wireless earbuds and neckbands.

Out-of-the-box, the CMF Phone 1 is likely to ship with Android 14-based NothingOS 2.5, which, according to the company, “will deliver an uncompromised user experience.”

How much will it cost in India?

According to a leak on 91Mobiles, the phone comes with a retail price tag of Rs 19,999, and post discounts, the phone might cost somewhere between Rs 17,000 to Rs 18,000 in India.
