As part of the Mumbai BJP’s campaign ‘Aawaaz Mumbaikarancha, Sankalp Bhajapacha’, BMC has announced the launch of a citywide cleanliness competition titled ‘Swachhata Manthan’ in 2026 to enhance citizen participation in maintaining cleanliness, one of the key suggestions put forward by actor Akshay Kumar during the BJP campaign.

Mumbai BJP president and MLA Ameet Satam welcomed the BMC’s decision, stating that the civic body has positively responded to the suggestions of Mumbaikars to further improve the city.

“We launched the ‘Aawaaz Mumbaikarancha, Sankalp Bhajapacha’ campaign to gather constructive suggestions from Mumbaikars for the city’s development and to enhance the quality of life. During my interaction with renowned Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar ji, he suggested organizing neighbourhood-level cleanliness competitions culminating in a Cleanliness Awards Night. The issue of cleanliness was also emphasised in the suggestions given by renowned actor and Padma Shri Ashok Saraf. Earlier this month, we released the findings of the campaign. Now, we are delighted that the BMC has launched the ‘Swachhata Manthan’ competition. All constructive suggestions from Mumbaikars will be implemented in the coming days,” said Ameet Satam.

Recently, the BMC announced that it will conduct the ‘Swachhata Manthan’ cleanliness competition from January 1, 2026 to December 2026. The competition will cover multiple categories, including BMC wards, residential complexes, commercial establishments, hospitals, schools, restaurants, gardens and marketplaces, with a total prize money of Rs 4.2 crore. The BMC has also appealed to celebrities, citizens, and housing societies to adopt an area or their surrounding locality and actively participate in cleanliness drives.

The ‘Aawaaz Mumbaikarancha, Sankalp Bhajapacha’ campaign, initiated by Satam, was launched by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on September 16, 2025. As part of the initiative, Satam interacted with people from all sections of society, including coolies, dabbawalas, rickshaw drivers, youth, professionals, and renowned film personalities, to gather grassroots feedback.

In total, 2,65,738 citizens shared their opinions during the campaign, out of which 1,45,616 people expressed their willingness to work as volunteers to help build the Mumbai of the future.
