South Korean tech giant LG will launch its new V20 smartphone in India on December 5 and has sent out invites for the same. LG hasn’t had a fruitful year as the G5 tanked without making much noise. However, the LG V20 might just turn the tide given that the phone has been received well after its launch in San Francisco on September 6. While LG never introduced the predecessor of the phone, the V10 in India. The tech major sees great potential in the V20 and its acceptance amongst the geeks and audiophiles.

Though the G5 introduced an innovative modular approach, the device failed to generate sales due to the lack of a robust hardware ecosystem. The V20, however, is different from the G5. Being a successor to the V10, it sticks to the same formula. The V20 features a large 5.7-inch QHD (2560×1440) display. That means you get the same screen size and resolution, like its predecessor. The new smartphone also has a secondary display, just like the V10. It has a screen size of 2.1-inches and has a resolution of 1024 x 160 pixels. The secondary screen also gets a larger font size and better software support.

Both LG G5 and V20 features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, 32/64GB of internal memory and an expandable storage upto 2TB. There is a dual-camera setup on the rear, same as the G5, with a 16MP F/1.8 camera and an 8MP F/2.4 wide angle camera offering a 135-degree view. Then there is a 5MP front-facing shooter, F1.9. which is a 120-degree wide-angle, so you can capture more people in one single frame. As expected, the 16MP shooter on the back comes with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The phone has a removable 3,200mAh battery, USB Type-C and is compatible with Quick Charge 3.0. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back and it runs on the latest version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

LG V20 features 32-bit Hi-Fi “Quad DAC” configuration. It basically means the Quad DAC will deliver great audio quality when compatible wired headphones are used. Evidently, LG V20 will come bundled with a complimentary B&O earbuds for early buyers.

LG desperately needs a big hit, but it’s hard to say whether the V20 will be success or not. The competition in the premium segment is at an all-time high. Players like Google, Apple and Samsung have been working extra hard to capture the upper deck of the market. On the other hand new smartphone companies from China (Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and OnePlus) are also playing their cards well.
