Lenovo Yoga Book with Chrome OS coming in 2017: Report

Lenovo will release its Yoga Book running Google's Chrome OS next year, according to reports.

Lenovo Yoga Book was easily the most distinctive 2-in-1 hybrid device of 2016, and it looks like the company isn’t done with this. According to a report in Laptop Magazine, Lenovo plans to launch a Chrome OS variant in addition to the Android and Windows OS one. The report quotes Jeff Meredith, who is the VP and GM of Lenovo’s Android and Chrome Business Group, as confirming the new model with Chrome OS will hit the market next year.

“It’s an interesting idea for education, especially with the form factor,” he said.  He added the future version of Yoga Book will see the Android and Chrome OS coming together due to the availability of the Google Play Store apps in the Chrome OS.

Of course, the full support for Google Play Store apps on Chrome is yet to roll out but this is something that will take place in the future.  Chrome OS with the ability to run Play Store apps could be a game-changer.

Yoga Book went on sale in India just last week as Flipkart exclusive. Priced at Rs 49,990, Lenovo has so far launched only the Windows 10 Pro version in India, while the Android variant could be released in next year.

Lenovo Yoga Book is unique in many ways. On one side, it has a 10.1-inch Full HD display and on other it features a touch keyboard. The flat surface can be used for typing, and each key illuminates when you type on the keyboard. The keyboard, which Lenovo calls a Halo keyboard, disappears when a user switches to the Pen mode.

The flat surface is called the “Creative Pad” and a user can draw on it with a stylus. Lenovo’s Stylus has a Real pen mode as well, where a user can just write on a piece of paper on top of the Yoga Book, and the text will get converted into digital notes.

Under the hood, the Yoga Book is powered by Intel’s Atom x5-Z8550 processor coupled with 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal memory and microSD support up to 128GB. It also comes with a huge 8,500 mAh battery, which Lenovo claims will last 15 hours on a single charge. The unique tablet also features an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel shooter on the front.
