Lenovo Vibe P1, Vibe P1m with extra large batteries, rocket charging launched

Lenovo’s latest smartphone launches aimed at the online Diwali shopping rush will try and plug the biggest pain point of our smartphone era: battery life. The Lenovo Vibe P1 and Lenovo Vibe P1M come with 5000mAh and 4000mAh batteries, respectively. The new phones have a toggle switch on the side to start the battery saver mode.

The Lenovo Vibe P1 will cost Rs 15,999 while the Vibe P1m will cost Rs 7,999 and will be available only on Flipkart. The P1m will be available via flash sale only while Vibe P1 will be in available in open sale. Registrations will start today for P1m and sale opens on October 28. The P1 goes on sale from October 27.

Lenovo claims its OTG charging will let users charge other devices using the large battery of the two phones. The new rocket charging feature is, however, available only on the Vibe P1, and gives the phone 2000mAh battery life with just under 10 minutes of charge, claims Lenovo.

Our first impression is that both phones do not look like devices with large batteries inside, nor do they feel heavy. This could work in favour of the Lenovo.

At the launch event for the new Lenovo Vibe P1 smartphones, the company said it is now the fifth largest smartphone brand in India and has sold 3 million 4G phone in India till now, which comes to 20 phones a minute.

Lenovo’s online partner Flipkart claimed that during the recent Big Billion Days sale, they saw over 600,000 Lenovo and Motorola phones get sold in three days. Over 90 per cent of these orders were on the app.

To cater to the extra large batteries and long time they will take to charge, the phones will come with a 24v charger which can charge up to 2000 mAh in under 30 minutes. The charger is intelligent enough to switch to 12v if plugged on to a regular smartphone.

The Lenovo Vibe P1 has a 5.5-inch full HD screen (401 ppi) with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM and 32 GB storage space.  The storage is expandable up to 128 GB.

The Vibe P1 has a metallic and glass design with an aluminium frame which is only 4mm on the sides. It has a curved rear metallic cover.

The dual-SIM Vibe P1 has 13 mp rear camera, 5 mp front camera, a fingerprint sensor and runs Android 5.1.1.

The Vibe P1m, meanwhile, has a 5-inch HD screen, with 2GB RAM, 16GB storage space. The processor is a quad-core Mediatek MT6735P. It has an 8MP rear camera and a 5mp front camera.
