Huawei P9, the company’s premium flagship smartphone will launch in India later today. Huawei is launching its P Series flagship in India in an effort to gather some recognition in the market dominated by the likes of Samsung and Apple.
Huawei P9 is not just a smartphone, it is a marriage between a telecom giant and an optics specialist. Huawei P9 is the first smartphone in the world to feature Leica branded image sensor. In fact, Huawei has gone a step ahead to add not one, but two image sensors on the back of the smartphone. Huawei P9 was first showcased in April and was made available in the European markets few months later.
Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The IPS display promises better viewing angles than the standard LCD display. The smartphone is powered by company’s very own HiSilicon Kirin 955 chipset, which is an octa-core model with four powerful cores and four low power ones. The smartphone will come with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top of it. It also has one of the fastest fingerprint scanner packed into a smartphone placed at the back, right below the image sensor.
Coming to those image sensors, Huawei P9 comes with dual 12MP rear cameras – one capable of shooting colours while other one is capable of shooting black and white images. Huawei promises that the black and white images shot with P9 are exactly like Leica cameras.
The image sensors also support phase detection autofocus, but lack optical image stabilisation. The smartphone also gets an 8MP front camera, which is quite good for selfies and video calling.
Huawei, being a leader in telecom equipment, has managed to cover the basics of telephony here. The smartphone supports latest LTE bands and fastest WiFi standards. It also supports Bluetooth 4.1 with low energy mode.
The smartphone packs an array of sensors like accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light sensor. It also acts as a step counter when the phone is around. The smartphone is also backed by a 3000mAh battery which looks decent considering most smartphone standards these days.
