Apple on Monday, September 9, unveiled the iPhone 16 series alongside the Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4. While the Cupertino-based tech giant did reveal the majority of hardware specs, it did not specify the battery capacity and wired charging speeds the new iPhone models support, as is the case every year.
A few weeks before Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 16, rumour had it that the tech giant will be bumping up the charging speeds on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max from 27W to 45W.
While Apple did mention at the “It’s Glowtime” event that the new iPhones feature 25W wireless charging, which is significantly faster than the previous 15W limit, it did not mention anything about the wired charging speeds.
According to the details submitted by Apple to the China Quality Certification Center (CQC), which made its way on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, all iPhone 16 models were tested at 5-15V and 3 amps, which means they can be charged at up to 45 watts.
If true, this will make the iPhone 16 lineup charge approximately 50 per cent faster than its predecessor. But, despite bumping up the charging speed, the iPhone maker is still selling chargers with a maximum output of 30W on its website. So, it remains to be seen if and when the tech giant will officially start selling 45W chargers.
One thing to note is that the iPhone 16’s page on Apple website says that the new smartphone can charge up to 50 per cent in 30 minutes using a 20W charger, so we recommend you to take this iinformation with a grain of salt.
Launched earlier this week, the iPhone 16 series brings several notable upgrades, especially to the phone’s camera and design. Apple also unveiled some AI powered iOS 18 features, which will soon be available on the recently launched iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
