It’s been a while since Apple updated the iPad mini. The latest model––iPad mini 6–– was introduced in 2021, and we might finally see the seventh-generation iteration at the company’s upcoming “It’s Glowtime” launch event scheduled for September 9, 2024.
Despite being almost three years old, the iPad mini 6 (review) looks as refreshing as the latest iPad Air, featuring a metal unibody design with a USB-C port for charging and data transfer. However, the A15 chip powering the iPad mini 6 is a bit dated when compared to the latest iPad Air and iPad Pro models.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, there is a severe shortage of iPad minis at Apple stores, suggesting the imminent launch of a new iPad mini. It could even come with AI capabilities, indicating it could be powered by the M2 chip, just like the new iPad Air models.
Except for the chip, the iPad mini 7 might look very much like its predecessor, possibly with a slightly improved display, better camera, and more RAM, again, to back Apple Intelligence. With this hardware refresh, the iPad mini 7 might also come with a slightly more expensive price tag, but lesser than the 11-inch M2 iPad Air (review).
Another iPad that’s due for an upgrade is the baseline iPad, and Apple could also introduce the new and improved 11th-Gen iPad at its upcoming launch event, along with the iPhone 16 series, Apple Watch Series 10, and new AirPods.
