Google is now seeding the Android 15-based stable update to eligible Pixel series smartphones and tablets, including the company’s current flagship — the Pixel 9 series. This update introduces several new features on the Pixel phones.
Google, usually the first brand to push the latest Android OS update to smartphones, is a bit late to the party this time around. Brands like vivo and iQOO have already updated some of their devices with the latest Android 15-based FunTouchOS 15.
Right now, 13 Pixel devices are eligible for the Android 15 update, including the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Fold.
The Android 15 update for the Google Pixel adds several privacy and security features, including new anti-theft capabilities. However, visually, there isn’t much of a difference between Android 14 and Android 15.
The AI-backed Theft Detection Lock is a new feature users will get. This feature will automatically lock the smartphone if it detects someone snatches the phone and tries to flee.
If someone removes a SIM card from a Pixel phone running on Android 15, the device will ask for authentication to access the device, and on failing the authentication, the device will get locked automatically, rendering itself useless.
The Android 15 update for the Pixel series is also introducing new ways to manage apps, including Private Space, a feature that has been available for a while on custom skins like OneUI. This allows users to hide certain apps from the app drawer and make these accessible only with authentication.
For foldable devices––Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (review)––Android 15 adds the capability to pin apps in the taskbar, which can be a single app or two paired apps. This can enhance the multitasking capabilities on foldable devices.
Android 15, across the Pixel lineup, adds new camera capabilities such as Low Light Boost and in-app camera controls, improved network capabilities, including satellite connectivity for messaging on eligible models, and one-tap app login using Passkeys.
If you have bought a Pixel smartphone in the last few years, there is a high possibility that the device is eligible for the Android 15 update.
