Getting an AI tablet from Apple, Google or Samsung will set you back considerably. But, the latest Amazon Fire HD 8 will not. With a starting price of $99.99, it is one of the most affordable AI tablets in the world. Not just that, as a part of the ongoing Prime Big Deal Days sale, one can get it for as low a price as $54.99.
The availability of the Fire HD 8 tablet is limited to select markets like the US, and it is very unlikely to launch in India since Amazon does not sell its tablets here.
Amazon has introduced a host of AI features such as Writing Assist and Wallpaper Creator, features that we have seen on select Android smartphones with AI. The updated Amazon Silk browser can now summarise web pages using AI. However, the new and improved Alexa is still not a part of these tablets. All these AI features are processed on the cloud and are powered by a custom large language model (LLM).
The refreshed Fire HD 8 is an 8-inch Android tablet that ships with Amazon Appstore. This time around, the tablet gets 3 GB of RAM, a 5 MP rear camera with 32/64 GB of internal storage options with a microSD card slot for easy storage upgrade.
According to a report by The Verge, some of these AI features will also be made available on previous generation Fire tablets such as Fire Max 11 (2023), Fire HD 10 (2023), and Fire HD 8 (2022) via a software update.
