The Oppo Find X7 series is the first set of smartphones in the world to gain 5G-Advanced (5G-A), also known as 5.5G capability. China Mobile is the world’s first telco to roll out 5G-A technology, which is said to offer 300 times faster internet speed compared to a 5G network.
According to Nokia, a mobile networking equipment provider: “5G-Advanced will bring out the richest capabilities of 5G over the coming decade, breaking down boundaries and expanding connectivity. From immersive extended reality (XR) experiences to high-precision location, presence, and timing technologies, 5G-Advanced will profoundly transform what you can achieve with your network.”
As per the official documentation, 5.5G or 5G-A technology can offer up to a peak downlink speed of 10 Gbps and a peak uplink speed of 1 Gbps, which is part of Release 18 from the 3GPP standards body. Not just that, compared to 5G, 5.5G technology offers energy savings along with lower latency and higher network reliability, which is said to bridge the gap between 5G and 6G networks.
More than consumer applications, 5.5G (5G-A) is set to benefit industries and businesses, and it works on 6GHz and mmWave spectrum bands. 5G-Advanced technology is also said to enhance mobile XR virtual experiences such as cloud gaming.
