For all those looking forward to investing in a new smartphone, here is a list of five upcoming smartphones that are going to dominate April and May.
While Google has not officially confirmed the launch date of the Pixel 8a, the company is likely to announce it at its upcoming developers conference (Google I/O 2024) on May 14. The Pixel 8a will be a toned-down version of the Pixel 8, powered by the Tensor G3, and it will offer the best Android experience along with the best of Google AI features. Compared to the Pixel 7a, the Pixel 8a is believed to get some major upgrades, including a 6.1-inch 120Hz OLED display that’s brighter with up to 1,400 nits of brightness. The device is said to offer thinner and more uniform bezels, which will make it seem more like a high-end smartphone compared to its predecessor.
The camera hardware is likely to be similar to the Pixel 7a with a 64 MP primary sensor, 13 MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 13 MP selfie camera. The device is expected to offer AI features like Circle to Search, and the smartphone will ship with Android 14 out-of-the-box. The Pixel 8a is likely to cost around Rs 50,000, similar to that of the Pixel 7a in India.
Motorola is launching its latest flagship — Edge 50 Pro with AI features on April 3. The smartphone, powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 will offer a premium build, featuring a vegan leather back panel, and metal frame. The brand has also confirmed that the Moto Edge 50 Pro will come with a 6.7-inch 1.5K resolution curved OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is confirmed to include a triple camera setup at the rear with a 50 MP sensor along with support for 8K video recording.
The device will offer an AI-powered wallpaper generator called AI Art Magic and it will also be one of the first smartphones with the ability to capture Pantone-validated colours and even the display on this phone is Pantone colour-validated. Leaks also suggest that the phone will include a 4,500 mAh battery with support for 125W wired and 50W wireless charging support.
OnePlus is launching its newest Nord smartphone — OnePlus Nord CE 4 on April 1 with an improved design compared to its predecessor. The company has officially confirmed that the Nord CE 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Just like the company’s flagship smartphones, the OnePlus Nord CE 4 will support up to 100W of fast charging, and as per the leaks, the phone will include a 5,000 mAh battery.
A few other features that make the Nord CE 4 an impressive device include an edge-to-edge 1.5K resolution display with a 120Hz refresh rate, an in-display fingerprint sensor, UFS 3.1-based fast storage, and the device confirmed to ship with Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 skin on top.
Samsung is expected to launch another mid-range smartphone just a few days after it introduced the Galaxy A35 and the Galaxy A55. The upcoming M series smartphone is said to be based on the Galaxy A55. However, to make it affordable the device is expected to offer a plastic frame and might miss out on IP rating. The Galaxy M55 is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
The phone is said to include a triple camera array at the back, possibly packing a 50 MP or a 64 MP primary sensor, and the device is also expected to ship with Android 14 OS-based OneUI 6.1 skin-on-top. In terms of pricing, the Samsung Galaxy M55 is likely to cost around Rs 30,000 in India.
Realme might introduce its flagship GT 5 Pro, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 soon in India. This flagship smartphone is expected to offer similar specifications as the iQOO 12 or the OnePlus 12. The smartphone was launched a few months back in China, and it offers a premium build, featuring a metal frame, vegan leather back panel, and the device is also said to include a big 5,400 mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging and 50W wireless charging. The 6.7-inch curved display on the Realme GT 5 Pro will offer up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness, making it one of the brightest displays on the market.
The Realme GT 5 Pro will ship with Android 14 with a custom realmeUI 5 skin on top, and it is also expected to be one of the most aggressively priced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered phones in the country.
Among the five upcoming smartphones, it seems there will be a device at almost every price point. While devices like the Galaxy M55 and the OnePlus Nord CE 4 will cater to those who need value mid-range smartphones, the Pixel 8a will be for those who need Google’s latest hardware and pure Android experience for the least possible price. On the other hand, Realme GT 5 Pro will be for those who need a high-end Android smartphone making them worth the wait.
