Game Science, the gaming studio that brought us Black Myth: Wukong, recently revealed that the game has already sold more than 10 million copies since its launch. While this may not sound something out of the ordinary, the game took just three days to reach the milestone.

To give you a perspective, Hogwarts Legacy sold 15 million copies in three months, while Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 hit the 13 million mark in a month. This means the only game that comes close to Black Myth: Wukong’s popularity is the Pokemon inspired open world game Palworld, which had 19 million players just two weeks after launch.

Launched on August 20 on PC and PlayStation 5, Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG that is deeply rooted in Chinese mythology. Inspired by the Chinese novel Journey to the West, the single player game follows the story of the “Monkey King,” and includes several cultural and natural landmarks from the real world. The protagonist, also known as the “Destined One,” is on a mission to find the relics with Wukong’s power.

Apart from being one of the fastest selling video games of all time, Black Myth: Wukong already holds the title of being the second-most played game in Steam’s history by concurrent players and happens to be the most-wishlisted game on the platform. On Steam, the overall reviews of the game have been “Overwhelmingly Positive”, which is rare to see on a platform with millions of players.

Black Myth: Wukong developers also said that the Xbox Series X and S version of the game was to previously launch alongside the PC and PS5 version, but was delayed indefinitely due to optimisation issues.
