ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that was launched in November, has been inspiring new and creative uses every day. Its versatility has made it a valuable addition to many people’s workflows, boosting their productivity. Following Bill Gates’ confession of using the chatbot, Apple CEO Tim Cook also revealed he uses the same, saying that he’s excited about the tool’s “unique applications.”
In an ABC interview, Tim Cook stated that while Apple integrates AI into its products, the general public doesn’t necessarily think of those same products as being powered by artificial intelligence.
The Apple CEO added that the company is looking at ChatGPT closely, saying that large language models – the AI technology that powers ChatGPT and Bard – show “great promise” but also the potential for bias and misinformation.
Offering his thoughts on regulation, Cook said that guardrails are necessary but AI is already powerful and its development is moving quickly. He said that regulation will have a difficult time keeping up with the progress because the technology is advancing so quickly. “So, I think it’s incumbent on companies as well to regulate themselves,” he expressed.
Cook’s comment on generative AI’s fast-paced developments comes a day after the WWDC developer’s conference, which saw the reveal of a few features powered by AI language models. iOS 17 enhances the keyboard’s intelligence with generative AI, offering better auto-corrections and in-line predictive typing akin to Gmail’s auto-complete.
