There is something about starting your day listening to the silken voice of Jagjit Singh. And this experience should not be something limited to when you are at home. This experience should travel with you wherever you go. And that is exactly what the Sony ULT Field 1 Bluetooth speakers try to achieve.
The Sony ULT Field 1 is a very handy and trendy Bluetooth speaker with a rubberised body and a fabric finish. On the top of the speaker there is a power button followed by one for Bluetooth, play/pause and volume controls. There is also a unique backlit ULT button which gives the speaker a very Sony-like bass boost if you need it.
Interestingly, none of the sides of the speaker touch the surface fully when you keep it on a table and this means the speakers fire on all sides and there is space to let the music flow. In fact, the diaphragms on the side move visibly when music is playing. As a result, the speakers have a different sound profile depending on where you are keeping it. It sounds different on the wooden coffee table than when it is on a sofa. I found it sounded the best, and sharpest, when you hung it from its lanyard or made it stand on one of the sides.

As the Sushin Shyam’s Lagoon Chill flows out of the ULT Field 1, I can almost feel the heartbeat-like rhythm. That’s when I realise my leg was touching the table on which the speaker was placed. This is the type of speaker that really moves the room in which it is playing.
But then this is not made to be confined in any space. It is great for the outdoors and can be taken to the poolside or the beach as it is both dust and waterproof.
If Sushin Shyam has the range to do an ‘Illuminati’ too, the ULT Field 1 can take care of that. I would say it is more in its element when playing a peppy number like the one from FaFa’s classic ‘Aavesham’ as it makes full use of the bass capabilities of the speaker.

The speaker has the versatility, however, to play both these numbers and everything that comes in between as it is not just about the bass boost. If you keep the ULT button off, then the sound profile is sharper, perfect for listening to a ‘Hoshwallon Ko Khabar Kya’.

Pros
Cons
Handy and trendy design with rubberised body and fabric finish
Limited battery life of 12 hours compared to competitors
Excellent sound quality, especially when hung or placed on its side
Different sound profiles depending on placement, which might not be ideal for some users
Dust and waterproof, suitable for outdoor use
The speaker can also take calls and has good call quality. The battery life of 12 hours might seem less for a lot of users who are used to up to 30 hours on wireless earphones. But this is not a dealbreaker in any way.
At Rs 10,990, this is without doubt one of the best Bluetooth speakers in the market now, especially if you like to step up on the bass once in a while. Buy this if you like to take your music everywhere.
