It has been a while since Meta integrated its Llama-powered generative AI chatbot into WhatsApp, enabling users to access a cutting-edge AI model without requiring a dedicated app. Meta is currently testing a new way to interact with its AI on WhatsApp using voice commands, similar to ChatGPT and Gemini.
At the moment, Meta AI only supports text-based input on WhatsApp. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.18 is testing the capability to use voice commands as input, allowing for hands-free interaction with Meta AI.
Meta AI was recently updated to Llama-3.1, Meta’s latest multi-modal large language generative AI model, which can understand text, voice, and images and can also generate them. It is unclear if Meta AI’s response to a voice command will be in the form of voice or text.
According to the screenshots, WhatsApp users will have multiple ways to revoke Meta AI, including a floatable window on the home screen and a new microphone icon near the text input area. On Android phones, there will be a visual indicator with a green bubble at the top right corner when the microphone is actively listening to the user.
Meta AI recently gained new capabilities on WhatsApp, including the ability to access Llama 3.1, a massive 405B model, and understand new languages, such as Hindi, image editing capability, custom avatar generating capability, and more. Some of these features have yet to be rolled out to the Indian market.
