On the second day of his presidency, Donald Trump announced billions of dollars worth of investment to build artificial intelligence infrastructure in the United States of America. Trump said that three big players in the private sector—OpenAI, Softbank, and Oracle—are planning a joint venture called Stargate.
President Trump was joined by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, and Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Trump said that Stargate will invest at least $500 billion into AI infrastructure in the US, creating over 100,000 American jobs almost immediately.
“This monumental undertaking is a strong vote of confidence in America’s future and leadership under this administration. This project ensures that the United States will remain the global leader in AI and technology, rather than letting competitors like China gain the edge,” Trump said.

What is the Stargate project?
The Stargate Project is essentially a new company that aims to invest $500 billion towards building advanced AI infrastructure in the US over the next four years. The initiative will invest $100 billion almost immediately. This ambitious project seeks to push American AI leadership, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and provide significant global economic benefits.
The project backs US re-industrialisation and enhances national security capabilities. Softbank, Oracle, OpenAI, and MGX are the key stakeholders, with Softbank handling the financial aspect and OpenAI overseeing the operations. Masayoshi Son will be the chairman, and the technology partners include Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI.
When it comes to physical infrastructure, the construction has begun in Texas, with plans to expand to other locations in the US. Project Stargate aims to drive the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI). This project is a significant leap in AI’s progress.
Make in America
Trump kept his “Make in America” adage and said, “What we want to do is we want to keep it in this country.” He said that China is a competitor and that he wanted the US to be the leader. “I’m gonna help a lot through emergency declarations, because we have an emergency, we have to get this stuff built. So they have to produce a lot of electricity. And we’ll make it possible for them to get this production done easily, at their own plants if they want,” he said.

Talking about the latest initiative, Altman said that he was thrilled to be a part of it. The OpenAI CEO said that Project Stargate will be the most important undertaking of this era. “It will create hundreds of thousands of jobs, establish a new industry centered here in the US, and push the boundaries of innovation,” he said.
Altman in his short address, said that AI has the potential to revolutionise healthcare, enabling unprecedented progress in disease diagnosis and treatment. “I believe this technology will cure diseases at a remarkable rate and drastically improve the quality of healthcare worldwide. Thank you for your leadership in making this possible,” Altman said.
Solving real-world problems
On the other hand, Masayoshi Son from Softbank said that in December he had pledged to invest $100 billion in the US, and that Trump challenged him to go even higher. “Today, I am proud to commit $500 billion to this project. As you said, this is the beginning of a new golden age for America. This decision was made because of your leadership and the opportunities you’ve created,” Son said.
The Softbank executive said that he will immediately push $100 billion, aiming for a full $500 billion within four years. He said that his collaboration includes Softbank, OpenAI, Oracle and other partners such as NVIDIA and Microsoft. “This is not just about business—it’s about solving real-world problems and improving lives. AI has the potential to address challenges that were once thought unsolvable. Thank you for making this possible,” he said.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, said that it was an honour to be a part of this historic initiative. Ellison said that AI holds incredible promise for Americans. The CEO said that Oracle has been collaborating with OpenAI and SoftBank for some time, and that the first data centres are already under construction in Texas. In his address, Ellison shared how AI can enhance electronic health records to help doctors better understand their patients’ conditions.
Many details about the Stargate Project are still under wraps. OpenAI has posted a general outline on its official website; however, more information about this ambitious project is expected to be announced in the coming days.
