On Wednesday, OpenAI introduced a new ChatGPT capability called “Tasks,” which can remind you of things. Currently in beta and rolling out to Plus, Pro, and Teams users, Tasks transforms ChatGPT into a reminder app that can perform simple and complex tasks, such as setting an alarm or reminding you of an upcoming meeting you need to deliver a presentation.
“We’re excited to introduce Tasks! For the first time, ChatGPT can manage tasks asynchronously on your behalf—whether it’s a one-time request or an ongoing routine,” Karina Nguyen, AI researcher & engineer at OpenAI, wrote in an X post.
With Tasks, you can also set reminders for repeated actions, such as a reminder at 6 AM to drink water to stay hydrated or to go grocery shopping to cut down on online food orders.
ChatGPT Tasks can be used to receive daily updates on the latest tech developments around the world or send alerts about stock prices of specific companies on a daily basis.
While these aren’t entirely new experiences, with Tasks, ChatGPT can perform these actions without requiring an additional app. However, free-tier ChatGPT users will need to wait a while before gaining access to this brand-new capability.
