OpenAI, the developer behind ChatGPT, recently announced that it will be offering one year of ChatGPT Go for free. The announcement was made during the company’s first-ever DevDay Exchange event, aimed at expanding its presence in the Indian market.
Introduced earlier this year, ChatGPT Go is an India-specific budget-tier subscription that is designed to give users access to advanced AI tools at a pocket-friendly price. Powered by GPT-5, the plan offers benefits like enhanced support for Indic languages, 10 times higher message limits, image generations, and file and image uploads per day. It also comes with double the memory for more personalised responses.
Available to both new and existing ChatGPT users, OpenAI says the ChatGPT Go promotional offer can be redeemed from both the web and the Android version of the app, but iPhone users will have to wait a few more days, as it will be coming to the Apple App Store next week.
In case you are wondering, ChatGPT Go will be available for free if you are located in India and have an OpenAI account in good standing, meaning it has no records of missed or declined payments. Also, OpenAI says the “promotion is available only for a limited time”, but hasn’t shared any dates on which it will end.
If you are new to ChatGPT or are already on the free tier of the AI chatbot, simply head over to the web version or launch the app on your Android device.
Web users will need to click on the “Try ChatGPT Go” button, while Android users should tap on the “Upgrade to Go for Free” option when it appears.
If the Android app isn’t displaying the offer, you can also click on the “Try Go” pill that appears on the home screen or locate the option in the app settings.
Now, add a method of payment if you haven’t. To get ChatGPT Go for free and you will be temporarily charged Re 1 if you pay via UPI or Rs 2 if you pay using your credit card.
Note: If you cancel your subscription after redeeming the offer, your ChatGPT Go access will expire at the end of the 30-day billing cycle, and the offer won’t be available for the same account afterwards.
If you’re already subscribed to ChatGPT Go, Pro, or Plus through the web or the Google Play Store, OpenAI advises not to cancel your subscription. Once you redeem the offer, your billing date will automatically be extended by 12 months, giving you a full year of free access.
However, those who purchased a ChatGPT subscription from the Apple App Store will have you cancel their subscription, wait for the billing period to end and then sign up for the promotional offer.
Also, if you just renewed your ChatGPT Go subscription and have been charged after the promotional offer was announced, OpenAI says it will automatically add 12 free months after the end of your current billing cycle.
