Adobe announces the commercial release of its generative AI model Firefly on Wednesday with the launch of a new Firefly web application. This AI-assisted creative tool is now integrated into Adobe’s various services such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Express workflows and GenStudio solution.

“Firefly’s breathtaking capabilities combined with the rich tooling of our Creative Cloud apps, Express, the Firefly web app and Adobe Experience Cloud, give creators unparalleled opportunities to work with generative AI in new, rich and productive ways,” says David Wadhwani, president, Digital Media Business at Adobe.

Prominent features of Firefly include text prompts in over 100 languages, ability to remove background, add new background, regenerative recolour, generate custom images, and generative fill.

As a part of the commercial release, Adobe is including generative credits to existing Creative Cloud, Express and Firefly subscribers and when the credits are exhausted, users need to make additional payments to keep using Firefly. The Adobe Firefly for Enterprise is also live for businesses, which has been trained using Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content and public domain content with no copyright. The company is also working to enable businesses to customise the model using in-house assets to generate custom content.

Express Premium users can now use Firefly to add text effects, edit images, and generative images with simple text prompts. Just like Google, Adobe will also content credentials to indicate that the asset was created using generative AI to add trust and enable transparency to the digital content, backed by the open-source Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI).
