The Indian Olympic Association may have two Executive Council meetings in the space of two days in early November. IOA President N Ramachandran has summoned an Executive Council meeting on November 9 in Chennai while the Secretary-General Rajeev Mehta has called for an Emergency Executive Council meeting on November 7 in the Capital. "It is likely that both the meetings are held. One is Emergency Executive Council meeting while the other is regular Executive Council meeting, and so both can be held," a member of the Executive Council told PTI. In a sign of internal power struggle, the Emergency Meeting on November 7 was called after 19 out of 27 Council members had asked for it in a written communication to Mehta. One of the demands of the 19 members was to shift the venue of the (regular) Council meeting from Chennai to New Delhi. They also wanted to shift the venue of the Annual General Body Meeting of the IOA on December 14 from Chennai to New Delhi. The IOA will have to hold elections during this GBM. The Council member refused to elaborate on the venue of the second meeting. According to reports, Ramachandran has questioned the authority of Mehta to call the Emergency meeting, but the Secretary General said he can do that under the IOA Constitution. "I have the authority to do that. 19 out of 27 Executive Council members wanted an Emergency Meeting, then how can I not take note of that. How can you say that I have no authority. I have authority under the Constitution," Mehta said. Mehta also said that Ramachandran has been invited to attend the Emergency Meeting.
