The five-time champions have announced leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Puthur, who made his IPL debut for the Mumbai franchise this season. The franchise revealed that the player had “bone stress reactions in both his shins”.

Puthur made a mark in his first IPL season. He memorably claimed three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier in IPL 2025 in a game that was his IPL debut. Puthur’s returns for this season amounted to six wickets from the five games he played in at an economy rate of 9.08.

“Vignesh will continue to be with the team to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation with the Mumbai Indians medical and S&C team,” Mumbai Indians said in a statement.
Raghu Sharma — who was born in March 1993, in Punjab’s Jalandhar — is a right-arm leg-break bowler. He has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket. In 11 first-class matches, Sharma has taken 57 wickets at an average of 19.59, with best bowling figures of 7/56. In List A cricket, he has claimed 14 wickets in nine matches, with best figures of 4/37. He has also featured in 3 T20 matches, picking up three wickets. This marks Sharma’s maiden stint in the IPL. He joins MI at his base price of Rs 30 lakhs from the RAPP list.

Mumbai Indians have turned around their season admirably after being in 9th spot in the IPL 2025 standings at one stage. In their first five games in IPL 2025, Mumbai had managed just one victory.
