Rishabh Pant slammed his first fifty of IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings as the Delhi Capitals captain signalled his comeback to form at Visakhapatnam on Sunday.

Pant got to his 50 off just 31 balls before getting out in the next ball itself while attempting to his Matheesha Pathirana for a chip straight down the ground. Pant mistimed his shot and ended up offering a swirling catch to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who caught it after running in from long-off.

Explosion from Rishabh Pant

Just before he got dismissed, Pant had entertained the crowd at Visakhapatnam by hitting three consecutive balls from Matheesha Pathirana to the fence: the first one was a towering hit over the ropes at long-on, the second one was again sent to the long-on boundary for a four and the third one, the one with which Pant got to his 50, was dispatched to the point region.

Thanks to Pant’s and David Warner’s half centuries and a 43 from Prithvi Shaw, Delhi Capitals managed to post 191/5 in their 20 overs.

“It was a sight for sore eyes for sure. He just let go after the first few balls. These incredible skills that are so deeply ingrained in him — because of all the balls he’s ever hit in his career so far — flowed out of him today. This is where you seem him at his very best. Some of those strokes we saw today are ones we are accustomed to seeing when he’s at his best in the past. For everyone in world cricket not just in India, this is something we’re so excited to see: Rishabh Pant at his very, very best. Especially over those last 15 balls or so,” gushed former Australia cricketer Shane Watson on JioCionema in the mid-game interval of the Delhi Capitals versus Chennai Super Kings game on Saturday.
