Heavy rains in Kolkata halted Saturday night’s Indian Premier League clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Punjab Kings right when the second innings had started with the hosts KKR chasing 202 runs for victory. With the rains not easing up, the game was eventually called off with both teams taking home one points each. The KKR vs PBKS thus became the first IPL 2025 game to have points split between both teams.

This will be disappointing for the Punjab Kings franchise in particular, because they had smashed 201 runs batting first. For PBKS, the opening pair of Priyansh Arya (69 off 35 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (83 off 49 balls) smashed a 120-run partnership in the first 12 overs before captain Shreyas Iyer ensured the team crossed the 200-run mark with an unbeaten 25. For KKR, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy had lacklustre games with the ball as they both nearly went at nine an over.

In response, the KKR batters had managed to score 7/0 in the second innings after the first over when a sudden thunderstorm struck the ground around 9.35 pm. The umpires waited nearly 90 minutes for the rains gods to relent. But with no let-up in the Kolkata weather, the match was officially called off at 10.58pm with both teams taking home a point each.
