After sealing a three-run win for his side in another last-ball thriller of the IPL 2023, Rajasthan Royals pacer Sandeep Sharma said it’s ‘confidence boosting’ to bowl against MS Dhoni and win a match.

During the post match interaction, Sharma, with teammate and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal decoded each ball of the last over and revealed his plans against the CSK batters.

Self-belief is very important when bowling to someone like MS Dhoni and Sharma also spoke about how he backed himself in the last over. This was even after he bowled two wides and conceded two sixes at the start of the final over.

“It’s confidence boosting to bowl against him (MS Dhoni) and win a match,” said Sandeep.

“The wicket was slow, our spinners had done well so I thought I’ll try a slower bouncer and it went for a wide so there weren’t many options available,” Sandeep told when asked about his plan for the first ball.

“I tried a yorker for the next ball and again it was a wide ball. I backed myself and bowled a heel yorker to the larger side. Two balls were sent away for two sixes and then I realised I should change the angle on the next ball. So for the next ball, I tried to change the length and the angle and it worked for me,” he added.

On the fourth ball, Dhoni hit a single, and on the penultimate ball of the game, Ravindra Jadeja hit a run as well, giving Dhoni the strike.

Speaking about it, the 29-year old revealed, “For the last ball, I backed myself for a yorker. I was bowling good yorkers in the nets so I thought to shut down the over with a yorker.”

CSK needed five runs off the final ball to win the game. And, Sandeep bowled a toe-crushing yorker to Dhoni, who could only manage to take one run on it.

“Today, in the evening when you were in bed for a massage, I told you if you feel any pressure, take time, just breathe longer and then deliver,” added RR fast bowling coach Lasith Malinga when asked by Chahal to speak on Sharma’s bowling in the last over.

To which, the pacer jokingly said, “Actually sir I won’t praise you on your face but I have been working with him on yorkers and it’s coming nicely.”

“I feel the first ball which Mahi bhai hit for a six, if it wasn’t him it was a very tough ball to hit so I feel I executed nicely. It’s always nice to end up on the right side,” he concluded.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be next in action when they lock horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (April 16).
