IPL 2023: Heel pain puts Ben Stokes in doubt for CSK’s game against Mumbai Indians

The CSK medical team will assess the situation on Saturday afternoon before taking a final call, however, those who are aware of the development says he might not risk playing the game.

Stokes was bought by CSK for 16.25 crores of rupees in the mini auction held last year. England’s allrounder has played two games this season. The CSK is banking on his experience to deliver especially with domestic pacers yet to impress in the line up.

The CSK all-rounder Moeen Ali was asked if he sees his England team-mate Stokes as a potential candidate to replace MS Dhoni as CSK’s future captain.

“He’s really enjoying himself. CSK is the type of franchise where you come here and you do tend to enjoy yourself and really love playing for this franchise. He’s settled in really well. He’s a big part of the team with his experience,” Ali said.

The CSK vs MI game is considered the biggest of the clashes in the IPL since both teams have won the tournament many times. Ali related the rivalry to one of football’s old rivalries: Manchester United vs Liverpool.

“This is a game I really look forward to. These are the two most successful franchises and the fan-following is huge and this is one of the biggest games you can play as a cricketer outside of international cricket. In football’s point of view it is like Manchester United playing Liverpool. These are huge games,” Ali said.

The CSK Indian pacer especially Deepak Chahar hasn’t fired with the new ball. However, Ali believes that his pacer needs more time.

“I think the only thing he is lacking is game time. He had a bad injury and is coming back after a long time. Unless you can bowl in a proper game which you need as a bowler, he will get better as the tournament goes on. He is a big bowler for us and when he gets it right he gets three or four wickets in the powerplay.”
