IPL 8 auction: Star of the day – Yuvraj Singh

Delhi Daredevils snapped Yuvraj Singh up for a record Rs 16 crore in the 2015 IPL auction.

It has to be Yuvraj Singh. Released by his old franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore, dropped from the Indian team and bereft of a central contract, the 33-year-old went into the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore. Delhi Daredevils snapped him up for a record Rs 16 crore. In fact, Bangalore wanted to buy him back and went into a bidding war with Delhi. before dropping out. Daredevils made another big purchase, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews for Rs 7.5 crore.

Grand reunion:  ECB director Paul Downton must have taken note: Kevin Pietersen and England ODI captain Eoin Morgan are team mates once again, albeit for Sunrisers Hyderabad. England cricket’s persona non grata Pietersen was released by Delhi Daredevils after a failed season. At Rs 9 crore, he was one of the most expensive buys last year. This time, he went to Hyderabad at his base price of Rs 2 crore. Morgan had pulled himself out of the auction last term. Hyderabad bought him for Rs 1.5 crore. Another England cricketer, Ravi Bopara, too went there for Rs 1 crore.
