A bizarre incident in the Tamil Nadu Premier League saw one legal ball go for a mind-boggling 18 runs. The incident happened in a game between the Chepauk Super Gillies and the Salem Spartans. Abhishek Tanwar, captain of the Spartans took the ball for the last over of the first innings. In the last ball of that over, Tanwar ended up conceding 18 runs and gave up 26 runs in total to let the Super Gillies reach a total of 217 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In the last ball of the innings, Tanwar first bowled a ball that rattled the stumps but ended up being declared a no-ball. Then Tanwar bowled yet another no-ball – this time being unleashed for a six. The next attempt turned out to be a no-ball as well with the batsman taking a double. The bowling woes for Tanwar continued as the next ball he bowled was declared a wide. He then bowled his final delivery, one which was dispatched to the stands for a six. One legal ball – 18 runs delivered. "I have to take the blame for the last over - four no-balls being a senior bowler was disappointing. The wind did not help as it played a huge role," Salem Spartans captain Tanwar said after the match. In the previous Tamil Nadu Super League season, Tanwar was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. He had picked up 22 scalps but was struggling to find any rhythm against the Super Gillies. They ended up on the losing side of the match as well after their chase was unsuccessful. The Spartans could only manage to put up 165 runs in their 20 overs at the loss of 9 wickets and lost by a 52-run margin.
